Citizens have been left stunned today at the news that the real Franz Ferdinand, Harry Truman, Ice Cube and the entire news media share more than a love of sensation. Although the Guardian Media Group denies a purported plan to shut down the Observer, journalists remain fearful that the speculative closure of the nation’s oldest Sunday newspaper is merely the first domino in a long line of tumbling titles.
In response, interested parties are reportedly doing what any battle-hardened cynic does in the face of adversity - laughing hysterically. Accordingly, now-comedian David Mitchell, of Peep Show notoriety, has answered the 'Bob Hope' call of duty to stump for the media masses. Philosopher A.C. Grayling and journalist Katharine Whitehorne will join Mitchell and a cast of concerned citizens for Monday's Press Gazette Stand up fo the Observer event at Friends Meeting hall to mock the idea that the destruction of a proud industry is some laughing matter.
