FORMER MEDIA SOCIETY NEWS EDITOR'S LITERARY SUCCESS

12/05/2010

The Media Society has been cheered by a most excellent review of a new book by Kevin Telfer, the former Media Society News Editor, in The Sunday Times at the weekend.

Peter Pan's First XI is published by Sceptre on May 13 and tells the intriguing story of J. M. Barrie's amateur cricket team the Allahakbarries which included among its number luminaries such as Arthur Conan Doyle, P. G. Wodehouse, A. A. Milne and Jerome K. Jerome, alongside African explorers, cartoonists, artists, editors and even the odd first class cricketer.

Andrew Holgate, writing in The Sunday Times, described it as 'a tale of lost innocence and late-flowering grief, wrapped up in a comedy of cricketing manners'.
