MARTIN WOLF CROWNED KING OF COMMENTARIAT PACK
13/10/2009
The Financial Times’ Martin Wolf fended off competition from oft-nominated neophyte Johann Hari and prize winning veteran David Aaronovitch to claim the first ever Editorial Intelligence Commentariat of the Year Award Tuesday morning. That the award went to a journalist so well placed at the heart of the financial crisis was no surprise even to Wolf himself.
Another beneficiary of expert right-place timing was Alex Brummer for his magazine and financial work with the New Statesman and Daily Mail respectively. Though the multi-task master Hari was ultimately not to be denied as he took home the title of best Cultural Commentator.
The Times Comment Pages garnered praise for being the best at its namesake. While the indies and the mainstream claimed even odds with Iain Dale and the FT’s Alphaville awarded best of the Blogs.
Other notable winners included Londoner’s Diary for Best Diary Comment Page, Camilla Cavendish for Best Environment Comment, Richard Littlejohn for Polemicist of the Year, and Fraser Nelson for Best Political Commentator.
