PETER DANNHEISSER TO STEP DOWN AS HONORARY SECRETARY

03/05/2010

After nearly 20 years of dedicated service, Peter Dannheisser is stepping down as Media Society Honorary Secretary.  Like any well-oiled machine, the Media Society has depended on the modest, behind-the-scenes effort of servicemen like Peter.  He was first enlisted in 1991 by then President Chris Rowley (1990 – 1993).  Unbeknownst to him, Peter would go on to work as Honorary Secretary to a list of notable Presidents including Carole Stone (1997), Adrian Monck (2005), and current chief Geraldine Sharpe-Newton (2006).

During his early years as Society aide, Peter worked at the Independent Broadcasting Authority before joining the BBC in 1992 where he helped establish the Programme Complaints Unit.  A psychologist by trade, Dannheiser now works as an Ofsted schools inspector evaluating the impact of television on schools.

Although he will no longer manage the Society’s finances, Peter will retain his position on the Council.  Faced with prospect of his third decade with the Society, Peter’s motivation is clear,

“The Media Society is very special because of its wide remit.  With the media ever-evolving, I hope we can bring people together with very wide interests to share their views not only on future business models but also the legal and ethical issues that these developments challenge us with.”

Current President Sharpe-Newton adds, “Always a measured voice of reason, Peter insures we get it right the first time and for that we are grateful. Plus he is a delight to know and work with and I look forward to having him for 2010 and beyond.”
