In January 2018 the BBC’s then China Editor Carrie Gracie announced in an open letter that she was quitting her job over her battle for equal pay. She had become so frustrated by the BBC’s stalling that she felt she had no choice but to force the issue into the open.

Her protest triggered a parliamentary inquiry into BBC pay, and after a protracted internal complaints process, she won an apology from the BBC and a six figure settlement which she donated to the Fawcett Society. Carrie’s move not only sparked an enormous row over discrimination at the BBC but also laid bare the wider issue of equal pay for women everywhere.

Her new book,Equal (Longlisted for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year ), explores why it is often so hard for women to assert their value in the workplace.

This event In Conversation with one of her former bosses, Phil Harding, Carrie talks about her time as China Editor, about her fight at the BBC and about what women, men and employers can do to achieve equality.
