The Media Society Mentoring Programme
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Media Society Mentoring Programme, designed to support the next generation of media professionals.
This initiative aligns with our charitable mission to educate, inspire, and promote skills development and excellence across the media sector.
The programme leverages the Media Society’s connections and industry expertise to provide guidance and support to emerging professionals. Our aim is to nurture talent, foster diversity, and help participants thrive in a dynamic industry.
The programme is primarily aimed at supporting young professionals, typically post-education and aged between 21 and 30, who are seeking to establish themselves in the media industry.
We are planning to start the mentoring programme in January 2026, with our first group of mentees: our 2026 Cohort of Media Society Mentees.
Initially, the scheme will encompass Journalism, Broadcasting, Content Creation, Digital Marketing, and Communications and PR.
The proposal is that each mentor would be linked to a mentee, and they would agree to meet at least five times in the Cohort year, in person or via Zoom/Teams.
Alongside these meetings, the Media Society is planning to organise a series of online Workshops, covering general areas which we hope will benefit the mentees.
Mentors
Mentors will be briefed by the Media Society on how to carry out the mentoring, and they will need to agree to abide by the Media Society’s Mentoring Programme regulations and guidelines.
They need to be available to meet their mentees at least 5 times per Cohort year (in person or via Zoom) to give support and advice.
They are encouraged to become a member of the Media Society.
If you are interested in becoming a Mentor, please complete this online Application Form.
Mentees
Mentees will be selected through an application process in October/November each year, and will be part of the following year’s Cohort.
They will be assigned a mentor by the Society.
They need to be available to meet their mentors at least 5 times per Cohort year.
They need to agree to attend the Media Society Mentoring Workshops.
They need to be a member of the Media Society, and regularly attend Media Society events (free admission for all discussion events).
If you are interested in becoming a mentee, send us an email, and we will contact you when the application process for 2026 opens.
Contact us here if you have any questions about the Programme.
Please Note
All mentor and mentee applications will be treated confidentially. The Media Society retains the right to accept or reject mentor or mentee applications.
2026 is being seen as a pilot year, and the Media Society may change the way the scheme is being organised as the year progresses, and for future years. The Media Society has the right to take a mentee off the scheme for not attending meetings or Workshop sessions.
Key Goals of the Media Society Mentoring Programme
The Mentoring Programme aims to:
Cultivate skilled media professionals prepared to excel in a rapidly evolving industry.
Faciltate valuable knowledge transfer between experienced mentors and aspiring mentees.
Promote diversity and inclusion within the media sector by actively supporting individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
The programme is being developed and overseen by the Media Society Vice President Susan Morton:
“We are really keen to launch and develop this programme. By combining one-on-one mentorship with targeted workshops, we believe that we can create an exciting, new and holistic development platform that empowers participants and contributes to the long-term sustainability of the media industry”.
