An urgent online panel discussion via Zoom examining how British media views the challenges and complexities of journalism in the Israel/Gaza conflict.
The conflict is a rapidly changing story - with the peace deal and ceasefire as the latest developments. But throughout the conflict there have been serious questions and issues about how the media has covered the story, and how journalists have reported on the fighting.
Two years after the October 7th attack and the start of the war, our panel of senior British journalists will explore critical aspects of media coverage of the conflict, including:
The implications of Israel's restrictions on international press access
Misinformation and biased reporting on social media
The unprecedented risks that Palestinian journalists and camera crews have faced on the ground
The impact of language choices in reporting the conflict
The challenges of reporting the ceasefire and hostage exchange.
The panel included:
Gavin Esler, the former BBC Newsnight presenter (who will chair the event)
Jon Williams, Rory Peck Trust
Elena Cosentino, director of the International News Safety Institute (INSI)
Richard Burgess, the Director of BBC News Content
Nick Tattersall, Global Managing Editor, Reuters.
